University of Auckland about e-cigarettes

University of Auckland about e-cigarettesRecently, the University of Auckland in New Zealand published a study about the potential of e-cigarettes.  Their Clinical Trials Research Unit, CTRU, provided evidence that when nicotine is delivered by e-cigarettes, the desire to smoke in individuals is reduced.

Professor Chris Bullen of the CTRU says “The e-cigarettes that we tested appeared to be as effective as a standard nicotine replacement therapy inhalator in reducing the desire to smoke and relieving cigarette withdrawal symptoms.”

Our results indicate that e-cigarettes have potential as a method to help people stop smoking, in the same ways as a nicotine inhalator. However, our findings should be seen as preliminary and need to be confirmed for this and other e-cigarette brands.”

In this study, 40 smokers were given in different days a RUYAN V8 e-cig with nicotine or a placebo, a Nicorette nicotine inhaler, or a tobacco cigarette.  Researchers where looking to measure the effect e-cigs have in the desire to smoke, to examine how they impact in t withdraw symptoms related to quit smoking, and the tolerability of the device to users.

The results give e-cigarettes a positive review and it shows that they have a similar capacity to facilitate people stop smoking as a nicotine inhalator.  A nicotine inhalator works as a substitute therapy to reduce the craving to smoke and brings relief in cigarette withdrawal symptoms.

Of course, more testing and studies need to be done to get confirmation on these findings. Still, this preliminary study by the University of Auckland is a good sign that e-cigs are here to stay.

Besides, the use of e-cigs is growing worldwide and their use is wide spreading everywhere, especially in the United Sates. I think at this point very few people are unfamiliar with what e-cigarettes are and do.  And we can expect to have an increment in their sales once more people are aware of the different study and researches proving the positive impact of these smoking devices in our life.
